Matthew 3:13-17
The Baptism of Jesus
13Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him. 14John tried to prevent him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and yet you are coming to me?” 15Jesus said to him in reply, “Allow it now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he allowed him. 16After Jesus was baptized, he came up from the water and behold, the heavens were opened [for him], and he saw the spirit of God descending like a dove [and] coming upon him. 17And a voice came from the heavens, saying, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”
Reflection
“This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased.” ~ verse 17
Today let us recall our own baptism. Do you know the Apostle's Creed by heart? Let us reflect on our baptismal vows.
Through our baptism we are joined with God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit just like Jesus was. We are now adopted sons and daughters of God, through Christ, and we stand as one before the Holy Trinity with all the angels and saints in heaven. The gospel today gives us dramatic proof of the Holy Trinity.
